About Cody DeLong
Growing up in a rural midwestern town, Cody was instilled at an early age with a solid work ethic and an affinity for nature and all its beauty. A natural artist, Cody has been drawing and painting since the age of five and is contiually inspired by the west which has been his home for most of his adult life.
A passionate life-long student of art Cody has studied at the Loveland Academy of Fine Arts, as well as the Scottsdale Artists School, where, in 2003 he was awarded a merit-based scholarship. In 2004, the Oil Painters of America selected him as that year's Shirl Smithson Scholarship winner ($1000). In 2009 he was awarded a $1000 Teachers scholarship from the Marilyn Sunderman Legacy Fund, for his work teaching painting workshops.
Cody currently divides his time between studio and plein-air work. He has participated in several plein-air competitions, including the Sedona Plein Air Invitational and the Plein Air New Mexico event. ... In 2007 Cody won the Artists Choice Award and the PANM event in Santa Fe. In 2008 he wona a Vasari award at the Sedona event. Cody was invited to the inaugural Grand Canyon Plein Air event in 2009. In 2010 Cody won the Grand Canyon plein air event. He has been a top seller at the event each year selling 17 paintings in 2010 and again in 2011. He was also a top selling artist at the Zion National Park plein air event in 2010 and 2011.
In 2010 Cody made the 'Top 100 - Paint the Parks' competition.
Cody has been featured in many magazines including SouthWest Art and Western Art Collector.
Cody is a member of The Oil Painters of America.
Cody is a Founding member, and former Vice President of the Arizona Plein Air Painters.
